Internet Marketing Web Site Design

in Web Site Design Tips

Internet marketing web site design is critical for search engine optimization. It’s one of the most effective ways of driving free traffic to your web site is by ‘encouraging’ the major search engines to rank your site more highly than those of your competitors. However, it is only one piece of the puzzle for search engine optimization, so be sure and browse my blog for other Internet marketing tips.

An ecommerce web site design for selling goods or services would be built the same way as a web site that is built for informational purposes only. Typically an informational web site design is monetizing through advertising.

When an individual searcher is looking for information by using one of the major search engines like Google, Yahoo or Bing, it is an established fact that most people prefer to look for the information by clicking on one of the natural search results on the left-hand side of the results page, as opposed to an advertisement which is shown on the right-hand side.

Consequently, if your webpage for an individual search term is featured near the top of the left hand side of the page, you will see visitors on your site from that search page.

Proper web site design for search engine optimization is critical for Internet marketing. Web site design is easy with the right tools.

Your Internet marketing strategy is to do whatever you can to make sure that every page of your site is as ‘search engine friendly’ as possible, because the easier you make it for the search engines to rank those pages, the more likely they are to do so.

How can you be sure your web page is ’search engine friendly’?

By using the proper software.

I use Site Build It (SBI) for building web sites. It takes the guess work out of internet marketing web site design.

SBI analyzes each page I build from top to bottom to ensure optimization.

You need to make sure your web site design software can analyze your pages properly.

SBI analyzes the following:

1. File name – yourdomain.com/filename.html
2. Page Title
3. Keywords Meta Tag
4. Description Meta Tag
5. Headline
6. The amount of keywords that are repeated in your content. Tells you to add or subtract keywords.
7. Keyword Anchor Text Link

There are distinct elements to web site design for SEO. I’ll label it as On-Page Optimization and Off-Page Optimization.

Firstly, you have On-Page search engine optimization, which includes:

1. Content

2. Your Domain Name and file name pages

3. Scripting language code – Title, Keywords Tag, Description Tag, Headline

Internet Marketing Web Site Design – Content

Content is King. Relative content that is.

When the search engine robots come to your site, they will scan the content materials that you feature, such as articles, news stories and so on.

When they do so, the objective is to try to work out what it is you are writing about, because this defines what your site is about. For this reason, it is absolutely essential that your content is based around your keyword terms that you have researched in advance.

As an example, if you have a dog training site, and one of the keyword terms that you are focusing on is ‘crate training’, then you should have an article that features this particular keyword phrase several times on a page and includes a URL something like ‘YourSite.com/CrateTraining.html’.

Another example is this web page you are reading. I’m trying to rank well for the search term – Internet Marketing Web Site Design. You can see how I have sprinkled this term throughout the page.

However, you need to be careful how many times you use your keywords throughout your web page. The software I use from Site Build It will analyze my page and tell me if I need to add or subtract my keywords for the best search engine optimization.

You can actually be penalized by the search engines for too many keywords. It’s called keyword stuffing, and the search engines don’t like it.

Having a list of appropriate keywords is an essential element of every aspect of online marketing, because you must always have a list of keyword phrases before you start building your site or promoting it. You need to create a theme for your web site.

Keyword research (Brain Storming) is a subject which is so important, it is not something I intend to cover in detail here. It basically comes down to supply and demand for key phrases or keywords.

Not only do you need to know if there is a demand for a particular key term or phrase, but you also need to see what the competition (supply) is.

Using Brain Storm It, another tool within Site Build It, provided me with the supply and demand for my keyword phrase – Internet Marketing Web Site Design.

Internet Marketing Web Site Design – Your Domain Name

Your chosen domain name is probably the most important aspect of on-page optimization.

It must meet certain criteria, including:

- It must accurately represent your business activities.
- It must be easy for your prospects and customers to remember.
- It must contain at least one of your main keyword phrases.

You will get the best results if the domain name that takes the spotlight on your site meets all three of these criteria.

For example, if your online business promotes blue gadgets, then an ideal domain name would be bluegadgets.com.

So, what happens if you already have a domain name registered that is appropriate to your business, but not particularly relevant to your product. In this case, just make sure that the html file name is relevant to the product.

For instance, if you already own BestOnlineGadgets.com and you have just launched a completely new range of purple gadgets, then you would create a page on your website for those gadgets that becomes something like BestOnlineGadgets.com/PurpleGadgets.html.

Of course, it would be better to have a domain focused completely on those purple gadgets, but having its own page appropriately labeled should be enough to get your page correctly analyzed by the small software robots (spiders) that the search engines send out to analyze new web sites.

Internet Marketing Web Site Design – Scripting Language Code

Apart from having a domain name that accurately reflects the content of your site, accurate meta-tags are a central feature of on-page SEO as well. Meta-tags are elements of the underlying page code and search engines look for them specifically when they visit your site.

It used to be that meta-tags were the absolute most important aspect of SEO, but as experts become proficient at manipulating them to get better results, search engines have devalued them quite significantly.

Today, it is believed by many people that Google has disregarded meta-tags entirely. This is important, considering Google is the leading search engine and commands around 70% of the global search market!

Yet, the remaining 30% of the search engines are believed to still value meta-tags, so it is to your advantage to learn to use them correctly for Internet marketing web site design.

To some extent, how you use these tags varies depending on the type of site you are operating.

If are using HTML code, then your tags should look similar to this (without quotations):

“<title>Main Keyword 1 | Main Keyword 2</title>”

“<META CONTENT=”Create a brief description which of course includes your main keyword phrases.”>”

“<META CONTENT=”Make a very short, concise list which includes up to 3 keyword phrases, each separated by a comma”>”

This is just a sample of the kind of information that you could include in the meta-tags.

Fortunately, for those who are not HTML programmers, like myself, finding and using the right website hosting company takes the guess work out of building properly coded web pages. I love Site Build It.
